Susanne Bentley (New Zealand/Belgium)
contemporary dancer, improvisor, teacher, choregrapher & coach
Susanne Bentley (NZ/BE) has been a freelance contemporary dancer/improvisor, working with others and on her own projects in NZ and Europe since 1996. In NZ she worked with companies such as Touch Compass, Opera NZ and Weta Productions (Peter Jackson- film), and was a founding member of Curve Dance Collective.
In 2000 she received a DanceWEB scholarship for Impulstanz in Vienna. Since then she has performed with companies in Austria (Superamas, Cy.ancal), Switzerland (Cie. Fabienne Berger, Nikunja), Hungary (Two in One) and Belgium (Les Ballets C de la B, Maria Clara Villa Lobos, Random Scream, Poni, Pierre Rubio, Heine Avdal, Lenio Kaklea).
Susanne has always created her own works- choreographed or improvised. Someone Else’s Weirdo was performed extensively in NZ in 2000, then reworked to appear in the Festival C’est Du Jamais Vu in Brussels in 2002. The improvised solo Téléphonez moi premiered in 2003 and Roasted Addiction was performed in Nov/Dec 2004 in Brussels in several venues.
From 2002-9 she performed with electronic musician and audiovisual artist Peter Van Hoesen as the duo Bent Object. Together they released a single The language you need on Swedish label Sound of Habib, and In Human Format, a music dvd with visuals by FoAM, on Brussels label Foton. This they also performed live in Montreal, Amsterdam, Sperlonga and Brussels. In 2007 they premiered Winning…, a dance theatre performance using sensor technology, co-produced by Buda Kunstencentrum. In 2008-9 they created Below 20 supported by Workspace Brussels, Netwerk, Vooruit, Stuk & Pianofabriek. This piece was an immersive environment performance, using infrasound, about the culture of fear. Susanne is continuing to rework this material under the title Unknown Unknowns I & II.
In 2007 she founded a Brussels-based performance improvisation research group which became SoloConversations Dance Collective. This group practices and performs regularly in festivals, onstage and in public spaces in Belgium and internationally. She also performs and teaches regularly throughout Europe for Bal Moderne.
Susanne has been teaching professional and amateur contemporary/improvisation classes and workshops regularly since 2002 in studios, festivals, for schools and for companies such as: Wim Vandekybus/Ultima Vez, La Raffinerie/Charleroi Danses, Danscentrum Jette, Espace Catastrophe, PARTS and Summer Studios (Brussels); Tanzfabrik & Dock 11 (Berlin), Impulstanz Festival & Tanzquartier (Vienna), K3 (Hamburg); Center of Contemporary Dance Summer School (Krasnoyarsk, Siberia); Dansstudio Arabesque (Antwerp), Wisper (Ghent/Leuven)… She has also taught for companies and universities in New Zealand such as University of Otago, UNITEC School of Performing & Screen Arts, Douglas Wright Dance Co.
She is an artistic coach & mentor, and is also a professional life coach with Consciousness Coaching.

Bent Object
Susanne Bentley (Nouvelle Zélande/Belgique)
Danseuse contemporaine, improvisatrice, formatrice, chorégraphe & coach.
Elle s’est lancée dans l’univers freelance néo-zélandais en 1996. En plus de travailler avec plusieurs chorégraphes, elle etait l’une des fondatrices du Curve Dance Collective, et a travaille aussi dans le monde de l’opéra et de la télévision/cinéma, notamment avec Peter Jackson dans Le Seigneur des Anneaux, et dans Xena, Warrior Princess.
En 2000, elle reçoit la bourse du Creative NZ et celle de DanceWEB (A) pour se rendre aux Sommertanzwochen à Vienne. Depuis, elle travaille avec diverses compagnies en Autriche (Cy.ancal), Suisse (Cie. Fabienne Berger, Nikunja), Hongrie (Two in One) et Belgique (Les Ballets C de la B, Poni, Pierre Rubio, Superamas, Davis Freeman, Heine Avdal/Foton, Bal Moderne, Maria Clara Villa Lobos, Lenio Kaklea..).
Susanne crée ses propres chorégraphies depuis 1994. Elle a travaillé (chante/performance) avec le musicien électronique Peter Van Hoesen 2002-9. Ce duo Bent Object a sorti un DVD de musique In human format en juin 2006, et créé un spectacle de danse-théâtre Winning… en 2007. Leur derniere performance below 20 etait en création 2008-9, qui était une performance immersive avec l’infrason. Susanne continue de rechercher avec ces idées pour un projet titré Unknown Unknowns I & II.
Susanne a initié un groupe de recherche/practique de l’improvisation pour performance en 2007. Ce groupe est devenu SoloConversations Dance Collective, qui faire des performances régulierment dans les festivals, sur scene ou dans des espaces publiques en Belgique et à l’étranger. Susanne joue/enseigne aussi régulierment partout en Europe pour Bal Moderne.
Depuis 2002, elle donne des cours de technique et improvisation pour professionnels et amateurs entre autres pour : Wim Vandekybus/Ultima Vez, La Raffinerie/Charleroi Danses, Danscentrum Jette, Espace Catastrophe, PARTS and Summer Studios (Brussels); Tanzfabrik & Dock 11 (Berlin), Impulstanz Festival & Tanzquartier (Vienna), K3 (Hamburg); Center of Contemporary Dance Summer School (Krasnoyarsk, Siberie); Dansstudio Arabesque (Antwerp), Wisper (Ghent/Leuven)… Elle a enseigné en Nouvelle Zélande pour les compagnies et aux universités entre autres University of Waikato, UNITEC School of performing & Screen Arts, Douglas Wright Dance Co.
Elle est coach artistique & mentor, et coach de vie avec Consciousness Caoching.

Susanne Bentley (NZ/BE) werkt sinds 1996 als freelance danseres in Nieuw Zeeland en Europa. In 2000 heeft ze de studiebeurs van DanceWEB (Vienna) voor Impulstanz gekrijgen. Naast de creatie van eigen werk, zowel in Europa als in Nieuw Zeeland, werkte zij o.a. samen met Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), in Osterrijk (Superamas, Cy.ancal), Zwitzerland (Cie. Fabienne Berger, Nikunja), Hongarije (Two in One) en Belgïe (Les Ballets C de la B, Maria Clara Villa Lobos, Random Scream, Poni, Pierre Rubio, Heine Avdal, Lenio Kaklea).
Van 2002-9 werkte ze als zangeres-performer met Peter van Hoesen, een Belgische muzikant, als de duo Bent Object. Samen hebben ze een single The Language You Need (Sound of Habib), een muziek dvd met de Foam collectif In Human Format uitgebracht. Bent Object heeft live concerten in Montreal, Amsterdam, Sperlonga en Brussel gedaan. In 2007 hebben ze Winning… gepremiered, een danstheater vorstelling met gebruik van sensoren. 2008-9 was de onderzoek en creatie van below 20- een immersieve vorstelling met infrageluid, rond de cultuur van angst. Susanne gaat verder met enkele idëen daarvan in Unknown Unknowns I & II.
In 2007 richtte ze een performance improvisatie group practijk op, dat nu het collectief SoloConversations Dance Collective heet, dat op regelmatige basis improvisatie-performances brengt, op podium of in publieke ruimtes, in Belgïe en in het buitenland. Ze is ook als danseres/lerares met Bal Moderne overal in Europa bezig.
Zij geeft hedendaagse dansles zowel aan amateurs als aan professionelen en workshops in improvisatie in Europa en NZ, o.a voor Wim Vandekybus/Ultima Vez, La Raffinerie/Charleroi Danses, Danscentrum Jette, Espace Catastrophe, PARTS and Summer Studios (Brussel); Tanzfabrik & Dock 11 (Berlijn), Impulstanz Festival & Tanzquartier (Wenen), K3 (Hamburg); Center of Contemporary Dance Summer School (Krasnoyarsk, Siberia); Dansstudio Arabesque (Antwerpen), Wisper (Gent/Leuven), University of Otago, UNITEC School of Performing & Screen Arts, Douglas Wright Dance Co. (NZ).
Ze is zowel artistieke coach & mentor, als life coach met Consciousness Coaching.
